Sharing documents with patients

Every patient record has a Documents tab where you can upload files. Anything you put there shows up in the patient's portal under Documents, and patients can download or view it any time.

Upload a document

1. Open the patient's record from All Patients.
2. Click the Documents tab.
3. Drag a file onto the upload area, or click Upload.
4. Optional: rename the file and add a short description so the patient knows what they're looking at.

Supported formats: PDF, JPG, PNG, DOCX. Files can be up to about 25 MB each.

What patients see

In the portal, the Documents section lists everything you've uploaded, newest first. Patients can:

• Click to preview (PDFs and images open in-browser)
• Download a copy
• See when each document was added

They cannot delete or edit documents you've shared.

Patient-uploaded documents

Patients can also upload to the same Documents area from the portal — useful for outside lab results, imaging reports, or anything you've asked them to send in advance.

Patient uploads show up in their record marked with a small "uploaded by patient" tag, so you know what came from where.

Lab results and structured data

For now, documents are unstructured files. We're working on a structured labs feature, but you can already:

• Upload a lab PDF
• Tag it with the panel name (e.g. "Comprehensive Metabolic Panel — 2026-04-12")
• Reference it from chart notes

Privacy

Every document is scoped to one patient and one clinic. Other patients can never see it. Staff at your clinic with access to that patient's chart can see and manage documents.

When you delete a document, it's removed from the patient's view immediately. Hard deletion from storage happens within 24 hours.

Tips

• Use clear filenames patients will recognize: bloodwork-2026-04.pdf, not IMG_0042.pdf.
• For multi-page intake bundles, combine them into one PDF before uploading.
• If you generate a handout via AI handouts, it lands here automatically.
